Sticker Removal

Post by sicr » Sat Nov 30, 2019 11:21 am

Does anyone know the best way to remove a sticker from a monofilm sail? Never had to do it before but I’ve just bought a second hand sail and want to tidy it up.

Here , Goo Gone. Or a environmental friendly spray.
If you heat it it will peel off also. Hair dryer, not a blow torch.
Prob take some effort.

I use Mykal Sticky Stuff Remover. My method is to leave the sail indoors for 24 hours (this time of year). Remove sticker slowly and hopefully most of the residue will come of with sticker. Use paper towels and squirt small amounts of Sticky Stuff onto single sheets and rub onto mono film where sticker was positioned. Rub gently wherever you see sticker residue and after a minute or so the residue will come straight off. Keep repeating until paper towels remain clean. Wipe over area with clean paper towel. Wipe immediately with a damp cloth and soapy water. Dry area and repeat and dry again! And voila you’ll have a sail minus stickers!

Just be VERY careful near any seams as they are glued as well as stitched.

Having spent many hours removing cheap Far East sponsors stickers ("YO" yogurt being the worst!), all of the above will work.
Now, should you be contemplating actually applying stickers, here is what you do.
Turn it over and remove JUST an inch or two of the backing tape around the edge of the sticker.
This leaves 80% ish of the backing tape still in place.
Apply sticker!
Alternatively find a posh Sponsor who makes expensive stickers that peel off easily after use
