El Medano 8-14 November 2019

Post by Hazzabee » Fri Nov 08, 2019 6:44 pm

Annual pilgrimage to the spiritual home of Teutonic Full Power. Slow start today to wait for the tide to drop, then afternoon session on 4.0 and 82L Fanatic Grip. Full power!!! But not excessively, so mooched up to the wall to start the brain recalibration procedure to the horrors of the evil tack, on some not too shabby onshore waves. All good until about an hour in when the wind went nuts. The massively overpowered downwind trip to the beach was, *ahem*, interesting... A quick clean of resultant poo from wetsuit then a final hour of full throttle south bay grooveriding. Great start.

Forecast looks radio rental for the foreseeable and beyond

Enjoy, I am jealous.
I remember the terrifying downwinders well from last year!

Frustrating afternoon of ridiculously gusty 3.7 craziness. Wall first on 77L Severne Nano and 4.0, but this very quickly became too much so sailed back downwind to the beach sh*tting myself again in the process to change down to 3.7 with the intention of returning. Instantly it became apparent that this was a silly idea due to the strength of the wind out back, so suffered the south bay gustfest instead for an hour before quitting in a huff. Sun, warmth, wind...I'm not complaining. Plenty more opportunities for better sessions to come, though tomorrow looks even windier

Sounds superb.
Having sailed El Medano for many, many years I'm not sure I'm understanding the defecation-inducing conditions twice in a row? Is there a big swell running that somehow impedes the downwind run back to the (south) beach? or is it just windy?

Morning session in the hope before it goes full mental of scoring relatively lighter wind. Or maybe not. Fully downhauled 3.7 stackaroonied out of my eyeballs. But much less gusty then yesterday so after a "settling in period..." actually I began to quite enjoy it. Started on a Witchcraft Haka 86 but that bounced and tripped all over the place so changed immediately to a Goya banana 79 quad with rails soft as sh*te and mast base jammed right to the front of the track. This was much better equipped for the insanity and let me gybe and attempt to turn on some decent sized south bay high tide shorebreak with a degree of confidence. Peak gust 46 knots    Fun :)

Unsailably windy 3.7 afternoon epic fail. The wall beckoned but remained out of reach as even sailing in a straight line was a challenge. Harrumph. More of the same tomorrow it would appear

Pozo er I mean Medano morning high tide south bay session again on 3.7 Blade and 79L Goya banana. Not overpowered!!! :P 2 hours of port tack jumping shorebreak smacking fun. Wall next if wind permits. It is relentless. 37kts gusting 43 on the Cabezo webcam right now. Feeling a tad sorry for my windsurfing companions who are suffering a reverse skunking :|
