Best Windsurfing Videos (Ever!)

Post by Ruaraidh_K257 » Sat Oct 26, 2019 12:12 am

I watch a lot of windsurfing videos - they’re the best substitute for the real thing when there’s no wind - and wondered what videos the rest of you love, and why?

What makes a good windsurfing video to you?

For me it’s got to have the following:

1 - minimal slo-mo: slow motion ruins the action for me; it’s much nicer to see it in real time. It should be used sparingly; if you use slomo for the occasional top turn it can look really good, but it needs to be low-key.

2 - good music: too many clips have crappy dubstep backing tracks. A good rock ‘n’ roll tune never fails to work. Some dance music is good as well ha ha. Jury is still out on hip hop for windsurf edits, but Kai Lenny seems to have it nailed.

3 - lots of crashes: they make me feel better about my own lack of double forward ability

4 - a proper edit: there are too many videos these days with too much slo motion, quick cut stuff that appeals to punters but doesn’t actually show much technical windsurfing stuff.

That being said, here’s my top five:

Marc Paré - Thanks 2018

2018 was a super good year for Marc and his edit showed it. I really like it because he’s got a mix of action; glassy waist high Cape Town waves, howling Pozo, Euro real world Cabezo, Hookipa going off, his own local spot in catalunya and of course the best spot in the world, Tiree ;)

A bit much slo mo but he makes it work!

Jaeger Stone: Home and Away

Good tune, insane double forwards and his signature whippy power turns. Filmed in pumping canaries and even more pumping West Oz. Really cool to watch him go off in a mix of conditions.

This guy makes awesome edits.

Robby Swift and Co - Pozo On Fire

A video of the Pryde/JP team tearing apart Pozo in 50+ knots with mast high waves. Much like there are no limitations to waveriding at Hookipa, when Pozo turns on the sky is literally the limit with the jumping. The crashes are also crazy!

Camille Juban - Springtime on Maui

A few minutes of one of the most stylish sailors on the planet destroying Hookipa with so much flow and rhythm; he looks so laid back, as if he’s barely trying.

Antoine Martin - Dying To Live

It’s nuts. 3 and a half minutes of him sending it at hookipa. Broken sails, no handed goiters, huge eagle wings and a good soundtrack. All of his go for it, do or die hero moments, crammed into one adrenaline-fuelled clip. It’s the best windsurfing video ever, and the best advertisement for the sport.

Special mention to the Windsurfing Project Skeleton Bay mission... it’s insane but it’s more like a short film.

I’ll add links to the videos later.

I saw this video years ago and thought it was impressive.
Maybe it will play for you? For some reason we might have to download it to watch it.
