Thursday 3rd October

Post by Ruaraidh_K257 » Thu Oct 03, 2019 3:46 pm

Up on the island again for some training, pre Tiree Wave Classic.

Extremely windy at balephuil. 50+ knots... normally the super windy sessions still don’t compare to Pozo but it was easily as windy as most of the days I sailed there. Would’ve been okay to sail but the period was nonexistent so you couldn’t really sail aggressively as it was super choppy so there was a lot of deliberate bogging which was quite annoying. The tide was dropping when we arrived and as the swell kicked in the waves got very sucky and steep and with the wind cross shore with the slightest hint of onshore it was good fun to hit the lip, even if the wave destroyed you most of the time! :P

Found a little smooth patch and a perfect ramp and launched into my one and only backloop of the day and landed it! I realised at the end of the summer that I needed to tuck my back foot more on the backloop to land it properly and I finally got a chance to test out the new technique and thankfully it worked :)

Dad on 3.5 + 80l Nuevo and me on 3.3 + 69l Ultimate Wave

Up until the 21st, so I’m counting on it! Looks like the big waves will be coming tomorrow and next week with some good consistent wind but not ridiculously strong - low 30s and occasionally 40s but not any more 50knot days forecast which is good to see! :)

Looking forward to next week on Tiree after an almost windless 3 weeks in Donegal..Still had a great holiday though.

Got out today at Marblehill but it was crap. Slightly Cross on, super gusty on the 4.6 KS3 and Kode Wave 92. Tiny wavelets.

Sink, bog , sail, hold on,repeat... packed it in after an hour. Then it rained.

Lorenzo? Pah.
