Thursday 13th June

Result at last. Proper windy ay Shoreham. Low tide at 2pm I arrived and launched around 3pm. Lots of people on 4.7s which for me usually means a 5.0. Pretty flat but very choppy to start with, but I was reacquainting myself with my Quatro SM. Magic. I was beginning to think I had the wrong board, having barely used it this year. But finally things were falling into place. Hung on to the 5.0 until about 4.30 when the wind ramped up a notch. Rigged my 4.5 and had a blast, good small waves for jumping and a bit of swell building out the back. Really enjoyed how nice the board was to gybe. Easy to get some tight turns and smooth. Of course plenty of wipe outs too and still find getting my back foot so far back a real change in technique. But so happy to be back on the Quatro with a small sail.Skunkatron rating at least a 4 despite the sea state being pretty average.
A good twenty sailors out, not bad for a weekday. Wish I could have stayed longer but two hours on the water is a decent session.

1 'till 5 at filthy bolt on Milford. Got to head high(+) by 3 on just 1.4m@5s (Big Salty). Too much for the 2 kiters. Stacked on 4.7/95. Quite a few beatings but had my earplugs in so all ok. 3.5

Got to Avon beach at 10.45, wind on the outside with the usual offshore hole by the beach. Looked a bit gloomy with rain on the way so put my wetsuit on first. Went for 4.7 Taka & 66L Moo. Planed straight off the beach and I was a bit O/P on the outside. There were some small waves to get nice easy jumps off and the occasional ride on the way in. The wind picked up after an hour and I switched to my 4.1 and sailed for 2 more hours.

The tide was going out pretty fast leaving the shingle bank exposed which meant sailing out for a few yards then walking. Tricky coming back in for a rest as it was difficult to tell when to stop.

Quite a few out despite the gloom. I'm glad I wore my winter suit as it seemed a bit chilly.

got down to Thorpe bay about 7.30pm , dead on shore but blowing hard, rigged up a 5.2 small wave board and Mrs rigged 4m. Went out it was SH*T ,so not to be beaten by mother nature mrs took the 5.2 and my board and i put her 4m on the foil board . What a difference suddenly i was off the beach and flying around well above the sh*t onshore chop. Mrs had an ok sail so i had to be quite on the drive home :D

Probably my most enjoyable Avon session. 5.7 early then 5.0. Always very well powered. Im learning that to enjoy Avon i need to rig big and/or use the 103l board so as to be consistently planing especially inshore when you want to accelerate quickly to hit the jumps. And then find a way to cope with the overpowered outside gybes - which worked pretty well going onto face of swell and quasi surfing out of it (although a couple of comedy moments inadvertently hooking back in when i thought i was being cool).

The relatively new inshore sandbank, that i had forgotten about, is really annoying!

Large crowd of friendly people on beach as ever.
