Saturday 26th Jan

Post by FKPhil » Sat Jan 26, 2019 5:47 pm

Bad day.
Just as I launched wind picked right up ahead of the rain and I couldn’t hold down the sail.
Changed down, tried again, then on the first reach out a big crack and my mast broke!
15min swim back in towing kit, luckily sea & wind were in my favour.

Yes.
Definitely my windsurfing life is better here in Cumbria..... for 11 of the 12 months.
But right now is the time to be in Singapore.

February ± a couple of weeks Singapore gets the North East monsoon and if you pick your days it’s a great time; after work sails are often the windiest.
Water & air 28°C+, sunny, but busy and you can’t easily park your car… so all the opposite of Cumbria in February. :D

Actually I have this tape but can't remember if I bought it for sail repair or something else.
Nikko OPP Tape.
Anyone recognise it?

Good fun at Porthcawl in Wales. Started pretty flat but the waves soon popped up on the reef once the tide had dropped back. 5.2 & Quantum90, though for some of the session I would have been better off on 4.2! (most changed down to 4.7). Smallish waves that grew up to about chest to head high throughout the session. Very onshore to start with, veering round cross on by the end (good jumping).

Liking the Quantum90 in trifin configuration. It seems very well behaved no matter how much wind you throw at it. Well done Ola!

Drove all the way to Avon beach (from London) to find no sign of the forecast wind and several sailors standing about. The wind arrived at about 1, a bit off shore so very gusty on the inside. Hard to judge what to rig as it looked quite windy on the outside. Rigged 4.7 Taka & Moo 66l.

Not much in the way of a wave to start with, they got better. but as always they were best down in front of the cafe which meant you ended up way down wind.

The wind increased through the afternoon so switched to my 4.1 Taka which was much more comfortable.

When I last sailed (at Hayling a fortnight ago) I felt I was sailing really well whereas on Saturday I was crap, just couldn't get sorted.
