Re: Water proof radio or phone for safety

When sailing in open sea I take a small very basic splashproof smartphone (Moto G3?) in a waterproof pouch tucked under the wetsuit flap over my shoulders (front zip). It has a tracking app (Life 360) enabled and also google location sharing to my wife. That way if Im overdue or disappear, or have n...

Re: 4in1 sup/windfoil/surfoil/windsurf

I would be very worried about the 4 screws, especially with the tendon joint (stiffer than a rubber BOGE). I recently sheared through a UJ pin whilst catapulting, so needed rescuing - the same crash would likely have ripped out your 4 bolts or the plastic they are attached to (maybe put some big was...

Re: Looking after sail

Never really noticed this problem be caused by derigging in the standard way (take it all apart and pull mast out concertina-ing at boom cut out), and i have some extremely old museum piece sails still in occasional use. I have though seen those hairline creases even in brand new sails straight out ...

Re: Monday 17 June

Bad luck for my after work session. Launched on my 5.2m but just too big to handle comfortably. So swapped to my 4.5 but after one reach the wind dropped. Hung around then gave up because at LW it’s a ½ mile trek back to the car to change again. When I win the lottery I’m going to employ a sail wal...

Re: Foiling stance - rig geometry... Advice pls

Im using ION adjustable varios that have a range of 26-34, borrowed from my daughter, and Im using them at roughly 27 (havent really experimented much other than started off with them at 32 and that was awful, tightened them up a lot and it seemed much better). Basically, other than when fully power...

Re: Foiling stance - rig geometry... Advice pls

Im not much further on than you - and I still have some of the problem you describe. Significantly shorter lines made a big difference, as did just doing it often enough to relax/let it become more instinctive / muscle memory. Im not fully there yet though so very interested in other answers. In fac...

Re: Thursday 13th June

Probably my most enjoyable Avon session. 5.7 early then 5.0. Always very well powered. Im learning that to enjoy Avon i need to rig big and/or use the 103l board so as to be consistently planing especially inshore when you want to accelerate quickly to hit the jumps. And then find a way to cope with...

Sewage!

I read a big newspaper article yesterday about how river water quality was going downhill rapidly and the water companies ignoring their obligations as they now are allowed to regulate themselves (and we can all guess how well that will work). Then today i noticed the below concerning Hayling. If yo...

Re: Narrow Dia Carbon boom

interesting you should say that smidge my wife has the very same problem with our new chinook carbon RDG booms on tush and rrd masts. i am going to see whether the shim from our old Aeron booms might fit or its going under the knife I tried the knife (gently), and sanding down. Negligible difference
