Saturday 13th April

Tiree. Measured the wind on Gott bay this morning - average 40 mph highest gust 51.8 mph. Went round to Balephuil hoping it would be a bit sheltered and there was no ground swell for the Maze. It was, but not a lot.

Tris and Gavin from Wild Diamond were out On 4 & 3.7. Ruaraidh and his dad Ronnie had just arrived and rigged 3.3 & 3.1. I rigged 3.4 Taka 4 at the max setting and went out. The wind was cross on from the left (I'll get used to evil tack by the end of the holiday) and the waves were over mast high out in the bay. The 3.4 was just right, manageable in the gusts but still working in the lulls. I if you fluffed an outside gybe (which I did rather to often) it was a b*gger getting going again and I had to bail from several unintended back loops so rather a lot of swimming going on.

Ruaraidh was doing best, getting really good at down the line in onshore

Gave up after an hour, bloody hard work. 4 more days of this forecast!

It was rather windy, wasn’t it?!
Like most big windy onshore days, it’s very fun until you lose your kit, and then it’s not!

Thanks for the kind words, it’s all down to practice! :)
