Bill, hope that helps the pipe insulation on the front bars rotates around which makes it easy to push the boards in and out.

Thanks David. I hadn't thought of mounting mine to the wall, I'll have to investigate that. The Citroen Dispatch rear compartment is a bit short and I have to angle my two bigger boards (255 & 235) downwards to get them to fit.

I've just got loads of pipe and fittings from the Plastic pipe shop so I'll have fun with it this weekend (bit like a giant version of something the kids use to have!)

No problem my T5 is a swb but the longest board is 2.3m so just fits. I attached the rear bars to the sidewall, but the front bars couldn't be done like that as there is a window on that side. So I joined them to an upright which is screwed to the floor like the others and also has a pipe clip to support it just below the window. Must admit its pretty easy to build just requires a lot of measuring and cutting. Helpful if you have an electric jigsaw. I found it best to start then add boards and keep building by just pushing the fittings together. Once it is sorted you can then start the glueing which I find gives it a lot of rigidity. Best of luck.

David A,
Your rack is the same design as mine. I have a Chrysler Town and Country Mini van, LWB.
I just Velcro to the floor. The attachment to roof or sides does offer some structural support. My lowest bar is not as high as yours, but I fit all my masts under it. I see you have provided room for footstraps and fins, nice. The addition of the pipe insulation, while constructing is brilliant, it just slides on then rolls.

On the left or right side you should be able to slide a sail, this adds cushion and stability.

When I travel distance the entire cargo area is full. I use a box of wood I made for sails to slide in without getting crushed, holds about 6.

TOTD, I wish we had vans the size you get in the states it would make life easier. Good looking rack I must admit I don't know why anyone bothers with metal. Its quite difficult to get the bars right height to slide it all in and out when you are trying to stack 4 boards and there is a wheel arch in the way..Must admit the sails are pretty cramped but I wanted to leave the space down the middle for the nose of SUPs between the front seats. Next step will be updating it all for kite gear and SUPs for our next road trip. I will put pictures up when its done.

The latest incarnation to hold windsurf and kitesurfing gear plus astro turf on the floor so we can slide SUPs in and out on their rails.

I was going to insert some phots but got the message "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." Which I have no idea what it means
