Re: How was your summer 2019 for windsurfing?

Not great for quantity by high (by my standards) on quality. A couple of classic summer hove sessions and a weekend of surfing in cornwall the highlight. Most significantly, and for the first time ever, my kids are starting to ASK to go to the beach - at the moment its for SUP, but its a start! Hopi...

Re: sunday 18th August

Hove late afternoon for me too. A rare day when it all comes together - warm, sunny, friendly crew, wind and waves right in the sweet spot of exciting without being out of my comfort zone, and I even sailed well (for me) so didn't feel I wasted it! Huge cheshire cat grins on everyones faces. Best se...

Re: The current standard of sails

I am not sure there are any bad sails these days. There is a lot of personal preference involved though. I have used ezzy's a few times (although not for a few years now) and really hated them. They are probably the only sails in the modern era that I have used that I would definitely not own. There...

Re: Viana do Castelo, Portugal

@jamz, I was there for teh heatwave and the week after. No wind during the heatwave at all but 5 days the week after - 2 of them stacked on 4.2m. Not many waves during my stay either, but when they came it was really good. PK's description pretty much nails it except: You get super flat water at the...

Re: Wednesday 31 July

Gambled, and won! Couldn't get to the Hove until after 6pm, which has skunking written all over it when the wind is forecast to drop into the evening. Went anyway, because tide for the evening was perfect and you never know. Arrived to see all the work shy crew derigging their 4.something sails as t...

Re: What's wrong with windsurfing?

Time. Windsurfing takes too much time. Time to learn, time to get to a suitable location (for most people), time waiting for the right conditions. Most people are time poor - especially people who can afford a sport like windsurfing - so they are unlikely to take it up. They'll do something easier a...

Re: Sunday 28 July

Interesting to read BB. I noticed you checked out the pipe first before heading upwind to the windmills. Were the waves significantly better there? Certainly cleaner (even glassy on the inside - sort of reminds me of LA). However wind is gusty close in so you need plenty of float. Some good ramps o...

Re: Sunday 28 July

Hove for a summer classic. Was windier than I expected and toyed with the idea of going 5m and waveboard but it was flat at low tide so went with 4.3m and FS board that I enjoyed so much in similar conditions a few weeks ago. Good call - sailing the FS with a nicely, but not overly powered 4.3 is so...

Re: New Starboard Freestyle but also cross over

I am surprised modern freestyle boards aren't more popular for more "normal" sailing. I can't think of anything I'd rather be on with any sail from 5.7 down to 4.2 when there are no waves. I don't do freestyle but they are great for maximising air time and doing "old school" freestyle. Compared to w...

Re: Thursday 27 June

Tried at shoreham. Saturdays forecast f3-4 looked ideal but the reality was f2-3 so I just drifted around. Sunday was f5+. Tried it for an hour with a 4.3m and made a bit of progress but found it physically very challenging in those conditions - oddly the legs suffered more than the arms! Only crash...
